Mindfulness Skills in support of Social and Emotional Learning

At Aussie Meditation we use the Unified Mindfulness System. Its clarity and precision makes it perfect for supporting Social and Emotional Learning by integrating fundamental mindfulness principles into personal interactions. This is an in-depth but extremely practical approach that gives teachers:

  • An understanding of the core attentional skills of Mindfulness
  • An understanding of the concept of embodying the core attentional skills of Mindfulness as the foundation for a successful Social and Emotional Learning Program.
  • A clear and practical approach to embodying Mindfulness skills which does not require the teacher (or the students) to meditate
  • Age appropriate interactive mindfulness activities
  • A student-centred approach to cultivating caring and understanding through Mindfulness
  • Continued Growth – taking Mindful awareness into more of daily life. Learn how that can happen for both you and your students simultaneously without extra practice outside of your work day

Enhance your Mindfulness Curriculum

Let’s chat! We can help you develop and/or enhance a Mindfulness program.

  • Guiding a short Meditation (30 seconds to 2 minutes) in class to transition between activities, bring focus to an activity, explore a sense and more
  • Learning a technique and strategies for managing your own stress and the challenges that all teachers face

FAQs

At Aussie Meditation you’ll learn the skills of Mindfulness. These skills contribute to wellbeing across 5 broad areas. The first of these areas is reducing suffering which includes working with difficult experiences like stress and overwhelm. We’ll show you not only the skills of Mindfulness but also specific strategies to deal with stress in real time. Being able to effectively manage stress across the course of your day not only reduces the exhaustion you feel but it also helps our ability to get to (and stay) asleep at night.

That’s a big question.

Some of the ways you could do that are outlined a little on this page.

Perhaps a good place to start is to with how Mindfulness could help your own wellbeing. The impacts of teacher wellbeing on student learning and wellbeing has been the subject of some very interesting research. Given all the challenges that teachers face you could all do with as much support as possible!

Being able to understand the practice and benefits of Mindfulness yourself will help when it comes to bringing a program to the classroom. Understanding the skills involved will help you improve the quality of any Mindfulness Curriculum you already use. It will also help you to understand how to develop and expand what you offer to effectively meet the needs and interests of the students in that moment.

We do offer Mindfulness activities that you can do with students that do not require you to have any Mindfulness Meditation experience. These activities are interactive and encourage Social and Emotional Learning and they also include the skills of Mindfulness. These activities don’t look like Meditation but nonetheless they do involve the attention skills that underpin Mindfulness.

If you are working with senior students who are dealing with the challenges of long hours of sustained concentration and the stresses of exams and assignments you can offer them Mindfulness practices to work effectively with stress, access rest on the go and also to build the skill of concentration.

Another big question.

The 5 areas of happiness and wellbeing that Mindfulness supports include elevating the fulfillment we feel from life. Practices which specifically focus on nurturing positivity and spontaneity are a wonderful way to re-energise these qualities in our lives. The grind of day to day work and the attitudes we encounter and unconsciously adopt can just become how we walk around in the world. With Mindfulness you’ll learn to see what these outside influences are. You can consciously choose to foster a you that embodies warmth, calm, ease and a vibrancy that lifts not only you but those around you as well.

“Mindfulness has been something I’ve been wanting to delve into for a while.  While I’ve only completed a few classes with Mark, I have thoroughly enjoyed what I’ve learnt.  Mark runs our class in a very calm, empathetic and professional manner. He is extremely informative and is able to convey what mindfulness involves in a way that is clear and insightful. Thoroughly enjoying the sessions and would recommend to anyone who, like me post-covid, has been thinking of doing something for themselves.”

“I would like to say thank you & how grateful I am for your guidance and for all shared with me about  Unified Mindfulness. I can not explain how good it is to have someone so freely give. I always left our classes with a genuine feeling of pleasure & well-being.  The big smile when you walk in and your soothing voice made it so easy to feel good and to fall into a state of meditation. I enjoyed every class. You are so generous with your time & you are such a beautiful person. I can not thank you enough.”

Heather

“I decided to try Unified Mindfulness through Aussie Meditation as a way to re-introduce mindfulness practice in to my life. I found it very practical and tangible. The frustrations I sometimes experienced with other classes did not come up in Mark’s classes. He was succinct in his guidance with tools/approach for the many internal and mental challenges that come up during the meditation learning experience. I would highly recommend this course.”
